Styling Tools: Your Best Friend or Worst Enemy
We all know the importance of styling products to help us achieve the perfect hair style. Whether it be leave in conditioners, gels or hairsprays we all know what is going to work best for our own hair type. But many things that clients over look is the importance of proper styling tools. Our stylists have heard it over and over again about ‘hair not holding curls’ or that no matter the amount of products; a client ‘always gets breakage between appointments’. The right styling tools help maintain hair health and integrity.
Some might think that the cost of products alone should be enough and that any old styling tool would work just as good. But the difference between professional level styling tools and regular store bought ones show in hair health. We have done our research and found out the top 4 things to look for when searching for the perfect styling tool.
1. Ceramic Heating
Having a hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron with ceramic heating will cause much less damage on your hair. The different benefits of ceramic heating include faster dry time with hair dryers and curling and flat irons ensure absorption of silk molecules into the hair.
2. Ionic Technology
Ionic technology produces and emits negative ions which work to eliminate frizz, static and smooth out the hairs cuticle. A tip for all of our fabulous, fine haired clients; when using tools with ion technology, avoid your roots. Using ion technology on the root will reduce the movement in the hair and make the hair fall flat.
3. Temperature Selection
This is one of the most important things to look for when purchasing a new styling tool. Constant heat is not good for our hair, plus we all have different hair types so we need that same difference in styling temperatures. For those who have damaged, over processed or fragile hair, lower heat settings is much safer for the hair. For those with thick, coarse or over all healthy hair, that type of hair can normally handle a higher heat setting.
When using your new tool, it’s always best to start at the lowest temperature setting and then work your way up, to see what temperature setting is best for your specific hair type. As for hair dryers, temperature settings are not only important but can also be beneficial to the final look. By utilizing the cool shot button or coolest setting once your hair is completely dry, can help to seal the hair cuticle and smooth your hair out.
4. Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a semi precious stone that when crushed and used in styling tools can produce even more negative ions as well as far infrared heat. Far infrared heat works to heat the hair from within causing less damage and results in shinier, smoother, healthier hair.
At Studio Booth we have a selection of options of styling tools that contain many of the above options. One of our best selling hair dryers is the MoroccanOil Professional Series Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Dryer, which utilizes ceramic heating and tourmaline to minimize static and helps to leave hair smooth and shiny from root to tip. The tourmaline ceramic technology dried hair evenly and reduces drying time by up to 50%. Our favorite curling wand is the BaBylissPRO Nan Titanium Curl Wand with temperature selections of up to 450 degrees and a titanium/ceramic barrel, this wand has become a favorite of the majority of our stylist.
Along with the proper styling tools, styling products are also very important in maintaining healthy hair. Here at Studio Booth, we carry many high end product lines that offer our clients the best in hair care options. If you are unsure of what is going to be best for your hair, always feel free to consult with your stylist to be sure that you can get the best results from your hair appointment.

PHYTO’s mission is to make natural hair care with the utmost quality and effectiveness in order to reveal beautiful, healthy hair. PHYTO founder Patrick Ales believes that nature is one with beauty, and the heart of their mission is passion and respect for the plant world. Built on a heritage of craftsmanship and cutting edge scientific advancements, PHYTO boasts the highest concentrations of pure plant extracts in today’s beauty market. PHYTO prides themselves in exclusively using extracts of plants with renewable resources. Most of the plants used in the creation of the product line are grown in the lush countryside of France, without fertilizers or pesticides and using water from wells and rain for irrigation.
Formulated with pure plant extracts and 100% natural essential oils, PHYTO utilizes over 500 different active ingredients that are all sustainably sourced. This dedication and passion for beautiful, healthy hair through plants involves exploring the world to find the most beneficial plant for each beauty concern, and always searching for new ways to extract and preserve the active components in their most potent and luxurious forms.
PHYTO believes beautiful hair grows from a healthy scalp, just like a plant grows from a fertile soil. For this reason PHYTO offers a comprehensive range of problem-solving formulas that are designed to treat the hair and scalp, not just by addressing visible problems. PHYTO scalp treatments address all scalp conditions such as dry, oily, sensitive, or flaky. They are formulated to balance the delicate ecosystem of the hair and scalp, preserving the beneficial flora of the scalp while reducing the presence of harmful bacteria. With a healthy scalp, producing just the right amount of natural oils, hair has a better chance of withstanding daily wear and tear. PHYTO founder Patrick ALES believes that “there is no such thing as bad hair, only poorly treated hair”. PHYTO’s beautifying products penetrate deep into the hair fiber to transform from core to surface. No unnatural coatings or silicone fillers that other products have that just merely sit on the surface and cover the damage instead of treating it.
When it comes to quarterly treatment days with PHYTO experts and constant education for our staff, Studio Booth continues to collaborate with PHYTO to give our clients the best hair care possible.
Studio Booth went to New York Fashion Week!
It’s not very often that someone gets to live out one of their lifelong dreams. Studio Booth was lucky to be able to help one of our own achieve their dreams. Because of high growth with Phyto Hair Care sales, Studio Booth was able to choose one of our stylists to fly to New York Fashion Week and work alongside renowned Phyto stylist Orlando Pita at the Derek Lam runway show. Because of her top sales at the salon and true dedication to the Phyto line, owner Ron Booth chose stylist Lyndsay Clark to represent Studio Booth at New York Fashion Week. Lyndsay took time out of her already busy day to sit down and give us all of the insider details of the backstage madness at NYFW.
After arriving at the Pace Gallery in Chelsea, she was immediately thrown into the hectic world of backstage at fashion week. All 15 stylists were shown the look for the show by Orlando Pita and then went to grab their models. Lyndsay recalls the moment she grabbed her first model and was stolen from her while walking her back to her station. “It was surprisingly competitive.” she says, “My first model was stolen by another stylist as I was walking her back to my work station.” Lyndsay didn’t let that phase her one bit. She went back to the door and grabbed the very next model that walked in and got to work.
On her second model, there was only 20 minutes until show time. Lyndsay described a hectic scene of a model having her hair, nails and makeup done all at once. “I was working on her hair, while another was working on her makeup and someone else was on the floor prepping the models nails.” Not only were there a ton of artists there to work on all 36 models, but there were also countless amounts of fashion bloggers and media crowding the room as well. There was little to no space, but things seemed to move along seamlessly. She had been following Orlando Pita’s career for 19 years and was so excited and honored to be able to work alongside of him and to be a part of something so big. Lyndsay says she would’ve never had dreamed that she would get an opportunity like that in a million years.
Studio Booth continues to strive for opportunities like this that allows our staff to grown in the hair industry. Collaborating with Phyto is something Studio Booth prides itself on, and will continue to do in the future.

Continuing Education at Studio Booth
The Studio Booth staff attended a two hour hands on Phyto product knowledge class. Taught by a top Phyto educator, our staff learned many new ways to utilize the different styling products by Phyto. Giving our stylists a way to diversify to use of the products was a main focus of the class. During the class, our staff was split into teams and worked one on one with the educator and learned new styling techniques using the Phyto product line.
One of the products that the stylists used was the Phyto Curl Energizing Cream. Curl Energizing Cream provides a strong hold while moisturizing and protecting the hair. The teams used this product paired with a thermal iron to create “crunch free” curls that last. Whether rain or shine, curls remain perfectly defined and frizz free all day long.
With continuing education for our staff, Studio Booth is always ahead of all of the latest fashion trends. Studio Booth is your go to salon when you want to work with a team with the most up to date information on all of your favorite salon product lines and styles.
