Studio Booth went to New York Fashion Week!

It’s not very often that someone gets to live out one of their lifelong dreams. Studio Booth was lucky to be able to help one of our own achieve their dreams. Because of high growth with Phyto Hair Care sales, Studio Booth was able to choose one of our stylists to fly to New York Fashion Week and work alongside renowned Phyto stylist Orlando Pita at the Derek Lam runway show. Because of her top sales at the salon and true dedication to the Phyto line, owner Ron Booth chose stylist Lyndsay Clark to represent Studio Booth at New York Fashion Week. Lyndsay took time out of her already busy day to sit down and give us all of the insider details of the backstage madness at NYFW.

After arriving at the Pace Gallery in Chelsea, she was immediately thrown into the hectic world of backstage at fashion week. All 15 stylists were shown the look for the show by Orlando Pita and then went to grab their models. Lyndsay recalls the moment she grabbed her first model and was stolen from her while walking her back to her station. “It was surprisingly competitive.” she says, “My first model was stolen by another stylist as I was walking her back to my work station.” Lyndsay didn’t let that phase her one bit. She went back to the door and grabbed the very next model that walked in and got to work.

On her second model, there was only 20 minutes until show time. Lyndsay described a hectic scene of a model having her hair, nails and makeup done all at once. “I was working on her hair, while another was working on her makeup and someone else was on the floor prepping the models nails.” Not only were there a ton of artists there to work on all 36 models, but there were also countless amounts of fashion bloggers and media crowding the room as well. There was little to no space, but things seemed to move along seamlessly. She had been following Orlando Pita’s career for 19 years and was so excited and honored to be able to work alongside of him and to be a part of something so big. Lyndsay says she would’ve never had dreamed that she would get an opportunity like that in a million years.

Studio Booth continues to strive for opportunities like this that allows our staff to grown in the hair industry. Collaborating with Phyto is something Studio Booth prides itself on, and will continue to do in the future.

Nail Trends NYFW 2014

This year at New York Fashion Week showcased a lot of different trends, from fierce, strong brows and tight slicked back top knots to simple, natural makeup and textured “just out of bed” ponytails. We were given a wide range of trends to test out this season. But what we are interested in is the top nail trends for the upcoming season.

While the majority of the time the hair and makeup were exaggerated and made as more of a statement, the manicures on these models were simple and perfect. Designers seemed to be following the “Keep It Simple Stupid (K.I.S.S.)” rule this season with understated manicures that we have come to love.

The nails were made to complement, not compete, with the garments. At the Nanette Lepore show, models wore short, opaque white nails by Essie. Blanc was used as a base to make the color of the clothing pop. This gave the natural nail a soft but elegantly modern look.

Milly and Lela Rose not only played with colors, but also a new twist on basic designs. Milly and Lela Rose show included colorful half moon nail designs. This look was achieved by covering the nail with a neutral base color, for this show the designers chose a sheer nude for the base. Then, the natural moon at the base of each nail was enhanced by a pop of color. This look takes a skilled hand, but is perfect for a fun night out or a weekend vacation.

Wes Gordon also put a new spin on a classic style, a colorful French manicure. This specific look was achieved by using the two contrasting colors of lilac and a sandy taupe color. The best part of this look is the endless color creations. Play around with bold, fun and simple colors whatever fits your personality. While very understated, this colorful French manicure gives off an air of fun, playfulness and versatility to any look.
