Styling Tools: Your Best Friend or Worst Enemy
We all know the importance of styling products to help us achieve the perfect hair style. Whether it be leave in conditioners, gels or hairsprays we all know what is going to work best for our own hair type. But many things that clients over look is the importance of proper styling tools. Our stylists have heard it over and over again about ‘hair not holding curls’ or that no matter the amount of products; a client ‘always gets breakage between appointments’. The right styling tools help maintain hair health and integrity.
Some might think that the cost of products alone should be enough and that any old styling tool would work just as good. But the difference between professional level styling tools and regular store bought ones show in hair health. We have done our research and found out the top 4 things to look for when searching for the perfect styling tool.
1. Ceramic Heating
Having a hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron with ceramic heating will cause much less damage on your hair. The different benefits of ceramic heating include faster dry time with hair dryers and curling and flat irons ensure absorption of silk molecules into the hair.
2. Ionic Technology
Ionic technology produces and emits negative ions which work to eliminate frizz, static and smooth out the hairs cuticle. A tip for all of our fabulous, fine haired clients; when using tools with ion technology, avoid your roots. Using ion technology on the root will reduce the movement in the hair and make the hair fall flat.
3. Temperature Selection
This is one of the most important things to look for when purchasing a new styling tool. Constant heat is not good for our hair, plus we all have different hair types so we need that same difference in styling temperatures. For those who have damaged, over processed or fragile hair, lower heat settings is much safer for the hair. For those with thick, coarse or over all healthy hair, that type of hair can normally handle a higher heat setting.
When using your new tool, it’s always best to start at the lowest temperature setting and then work your way up, to see what temperature setting is best for your specific hair type. As for hair dryers, temperature settings are not only important but can also be beneficial to the final look. By utilizing the cool shot button or coolest setting once your hair is completely dry, can help to seal the hair cuticle and smooth your hair out.
4. Tourmaline
Tourmaline is a semi precious stone that when crushed and used in styling tools can produce even more negative ions as well as far infrared heat. Far infrared heat works to heat the hair from within causing less damage and results in shinier, smoother, healthier hair.
At Studio Booth we have a selection of options of styling tools that contain many of the above options. One of our best selling hair dryers is the MoroccanOil Professional Series Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Dryer, which utilizes ceramic heating and tourmaline to minimize static and helps to leave hair smooth and shiny from root to tip. The tourmaline ceramic technology dried hair evenly and reduces drying time by up to 50%. Our favorite curling wand is the BaBylissPRO Nan Titanium Curl Wand with temperature selections of up to 450 degrees and a titanium/ceramic barrel, this wand has become a favorite of the majority of our stylist.
Along with the proper styling tools, styling products are also very important in maintaining healthy hair. Here at Studio Booth, we carry many high end product lines that offer our clients the best in hair care options. If you are unsure of what is going to be best for your hair, always feel free to consult with your stylist to be sure that you can get the best results from your hair appointment.
